This study evaluated the effects of vibration therapy using an AcceleDent device on the rate of orthodontic leveling and alignment in the mandibular arch. The study found that patients who used the AcceleDent device for 20 minutes per day experienced faster leveling and alignment times compared to control groups. For leveling, the AcceleDent group achieved the desired outcome in an average of 160 days, which was 48 and 55 days faster than the study and pre-study control groups respectively. This case series examines a new surgical technique for regenerating interimplant papillae using subepithelial connective tissue grafts. 10 patients with missing papillae between implant restorations received the new procedure involving buccal and palatal incisions made away from the papilla to preserve blood supply, and tunneling performed with a specialized instrument. The papillae scores improved on average from 0.8 to 2.4 after 16 months, demonstrating regeneration of the papillae over 11-30 months. However, long-term studies are still needed to validate the technique and outcomes.

2011 clinical outcome of dental implants placed with high insertion torques
This study evaluated 42 dental implants placed with high insertion torques of 70 Ncm or greater. All implants successfully integrated clinically and were stable after 1 year of loading. Marginal bone loss after 1 year was similar between implants placed with high torques (mean 1.24 mm) and low torques (mean 1.09 mm), indicating that high insertion torques did not negatively impact osseointegration or bone stability. The use of high insertion torques up to 176 Ncm did not prevent osseointegration and resulted in similar bone stability outcomes compared to lower torque implants.

Abstract
Background: We set out to determine the possibility of radiographically evaluating the degree of marginal bone loss in humans after functional loading of implants at sites of guided bone regeneration (GBR) with autogenous tooth-based bone graft (ATBBG) material (AutoBT®, Korea Tooth Bank, Seoul, Korea).
Materials and Methods: Using ATBBG material, GBR procedures were performed on the extraction sockets with bone defects such as buccal dehiscence and 6 months of healing was allowed. Dental implants were installed and prosthetic procedures were done after another 6 months of healing. Marginal bone levels (MBLs) were radiographically measured following functional loading (mean duration, 10 months; range, 4–18 months) in 10 patients among 19 patients initially enrolled in this study (4 men and 6 women; age range, 39–65 years; mean age, 55.4 years) who maintained follow-up visits after entire surgical and prosthetic procedures.
Results: No significant MBL differences were noted immediately after GBR, implant placement and prosthesis delivery (F=0.245, P>0.05). Changes in the MBLs were not affected by gender.
Conclusion: The ATBBG material is viable for GBR and can yield a stable MBL even after functional loading of implants. The degree of marginal bone loss after loading with ATBBG is stable.

Technique for Placement of Oxidized Titanium Implants by Oded Bahat
This study evaluated 290 tapered, oxidized titanium implants placed in compromised bone in 126 patients over 3 years. The implants had a 99.3% survival rate after 3 years of loading. Marginal bone levels around the implants remained stable over the 3-year period. By using a customized osteotomy technique that minimized bone removal and tapered implants with an oxidized surface, the implants provided reliable support for fixed dental prostheses in grafted and ungrafted compromised bone.

This randomized clinical trial compared the effects of two different force magnitudes (200g vs 400g) for maxillary buccal segment intrusion using mini-screws in patients with skeletal open bites. Twenty-two patients were randomly assigned to receive either 200g or 400g of intrusive force. Both groups experienced statistically significant posterior teeth intrusion and open bite closure, with no significant differences between the groups. The study concluded that 200g and 400g forces produced similar outcomes for maxillary posterior intrusion and open bite correction.

This study examined the relationship between infraocclusion of deciduous molars and other dental anomalies. The study analyzed 99 patients with infraocclusion from Boston and Jerusalem. It found statistically significant associations between infraocclusion and increased prevalence of tooth agenesis, microdontia of maxillary lateral incisors, palatally displaced canines, and distal angulation of mandibular second premolars. Specifically, these dental anomalies were two to seven times more common in the infraocclusion samples compared to reported prevalence in general population reference samples. The results support the hypothesis that shared genetic factors may underlie the connection between infraocclusion and other dental anomalies.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate long-term clinical and bacterial effects of using 6 g of
xylitol per day for 3 months on patients with full fixed orthodontic appliances.
Methods: The study was a pilot clinical trial that included 41 subjects who were undergoing orthodontic
treatment. The subjects were randomly divided into three groups. Group A received xylitol chewing gum, group B
received xylitol dissolvable chewable tablets, and Group C served as the control group and did not receive xylitol
gums or tablets. Clinical examination and the collection of plaque and saliva samples were carried out at baseline
and 3, 6, and 12 months. All three groups were given oral hygiene instruction and were put on a 6-month cleaning
and topical fluoride schedule. Plaque scores and bacterial counts were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the
different approaches at reducing the caries risk.
Results: Xylitol groups did not experience any more reduction in plaque score, plaque MS counts, or salivary MS
counts than the control group nor did they have lower values at any of the time points. Chewing gum did not
significantly increase the incidence of debonded brackets over the other groups.
Conclusions: Xylitol does not have a clinical or bacterial benefit in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances. Oral
hygiene instructions and 6-month topical fluoride application were effective at reducing plaque scores and bacterial
counts in patients with full fixed appliances regardless of whether or not xylitol was used.

Orthodontic movement using pulsating force induced peizoelctricity
Pulsating forces were applied to a patient's maxillary molar to induce piezoelectricity and accelerate tooth movement. Piezoelectricity generates charges when bone deforms under mechanical stress, inducing microcurrents that may stimulate bone remodeling. A device applied 30 oz peak (20 oz average) pulsating forces at 0.7 Hz to the test tooth, and 18 oz continuous force to the control tooth. Over 180 hours, the pulsed tooth moved 0.056 inches, more than the control. Mobility was also lower for the pulsed tooth. Precise measurements showed pulsating forces may achieve faster, less painful orthodontic tooth movement through piezoelectric effects.

This document summarizes two clinical cases where minimally invasive antral membrane balloon elevation was used to perform sinus lift procedures for single tooth implant placement in the posterior maxilla with reduced bone height. In both cases, the procedure allowed for sufficient bone augmentation to subsequently place dental implants. The procedure was found to be a relatively simple and safe method for rehabilitation of missing teeth in the challenging posterior maxilla, avoiding the need for more invasive sinus lift surgeries.

This study assessed the agreement between periapical radiographs (PA) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in evaluating the periapical status of 60 previously root filled maxillary and mandibular molars. The number of canals, periapical lesions, dimensions of lesions, and presence of 'J'-shaped lesions were compared between PA and CBCT. There were statistically significant differences between PA and CBCT for all assessed parameters. The magnitude of differences was greater for maxillary than mandibular molars. Introduction: Orthodontists are often asked to remove fixed retainers before magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI). This study was undertaken to assess the effects of 2 commonly used fixed retainers on MRI distortion
and whether they should be removed. Methods: MRI scans were performed on a dry skull with Twistflex (Dentaurum,
Ispringen, Germany) and Ortho Flex Tech (Reliance Orthodontic Products, Itasca, Ill) retainers. Two
neuroradiologists independently ranked the distortions. The influence of the fixed retainers' alloys, their distance
to the area of diagnosis, location, strength of the magnetic field, and the spin-echo sequence were examined.
Statistical analysis included kappa and Pearson chi-square tests. Results: Ortho Flex Tech retainers caused
no distortion. Twistflex retainers caused distortion in 46% of the tests in areas close to the retainer (tongue
and jaws). Maxillary fixed retainers and the combination of maxillary and mandibular fixed retainers further
increased the distortion. Greater distortion was observed with 3-T magnetic fields and T1-weighted spin-echo
sequences. Conclusions: Removal of the Ortho Flex Tech retainer is unnecessary before MRI. Removal of
the Twistflex should be considered if the MRI scans are performed to diagnose areas close to the fixed retainers,
when 3-T magnetic fields and T1-weighted sequences are used, and when both maxillary and mandibular fixed
retainers are present.

A randomized controlled clinical trial compared the stability of dental implants placed under immediate loading, early loading at 6 weeks, or conventional/delayed loading at 12 weeks. Forty patients each received a single dental implant between 2004-2007. Conventional extraction forceps are designed on the principle of simple machine incorporating two first-class levers, connected with a hinge. The physics forceps are the newly invented forceps. The design of physics forceps which implements a first class lever, creep, and type of force that provides a mechanical advantage, which makes it more efficient. AIM: The aim of the present study to evaluate the efficacy between the conventional extraction forceps and physics forceps in orthodontic extraction of maxillary premolars. Patients & Methods:A total of 50 healthy patients with indicated for extraction of bilateral maxillary premolar for orthodontic reasons; split mouth design (control side, test side) in a randomized manner; were included in the present study. Results:Ease of technique, buccal cortical plate fracture, fracture of tooth or root, gingival laceration, soft tissue healing was not significant. The extraction time and bleeding associated with extraction socket were significant. Post operative days 1-4 are not significant and on day 5-7 the pain on VAS score is 0. Conclusion:The results of present study suggest that, extraction using any forceps can produce predictable results and it totally depends on surgeon’s expertise in a particular technique.

This study examined the gradient of new bone formation and residual graft particles at different distances from the sinus floor following maxillary sinus floor augmentation using either freeze-dried bone allografts (FDBA) or biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) bone substitute. Biopsies were taken from 26 sites in 13 patients at implant placement 9 months after sinus augmentation. Histomorphometric analysis found that the density of new bone decreased with increasing distance from the sinus floor for both graft materials. This study evaluated the 5-year outcomes of surgical treatment of peri-implantitis using a bone substitute with or without a resorbable membrane. 38 patients with peri-implantitis were treated with either a bone substitute alone or with a membrane. At 5 years, clinical improvements from treatment were maintained, including reduced bleeding and probing depths. Radiographic bone fill increased by 1.1-1.3 mm with no significant difference between treatment groups. Strict post-surgical plaque control was important for successful treatment outcomes. The membrane did not provide additional benefit to bone fill.

This study compared the widths of 20 commercially available preformed archwires to the widths of natural dental arches in 30 subjects with ideal occlusions. The study found that the preformed archwires were significantly narrower than the natural dental arches at both the canine and molar levels. Specifically, 14 archwires fell within 1 standard deviation of the mean canine width, but only 7 fell within 1 standard deviation of the mean molar width. The variations in current preformed archwire forms do not entirely correspond to the diversity of normal arch forms.
Clinical study of impacted maxillary canine in the Arab population in Israel
The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of impacted maxillary canine in patients in Arabs Community in Israel (ARAB48,Israel) visiting our Center For Dentistry,Research & Aesthetics,Jatt,Almothalath,Israel, 4250 patients . This study comprises data from patients who attended the O.P.D.2200 patients between Jun. 2006 to Dec 2013. Patients were examined in order to detect the impacted maxillary canines by intraoral examination, palpation, dental records and followed by radiographs. It was found that the prevalence of canine impaction was 0,8 % (N=4250), 1,6 (N=2200), 43,9 (N-82) in males and 1,1% (N=4250), 2,1 (N=2200), 56,1 (N-82) in females suggesting that prevalence of impacted maxillary canines is more in females than males and it is statistically significant. The overall prevalence for maxillary impacted canines was found to be 3,7 % (N=2200) which suggested that it is much higher than previous studies. The results of this study were slightly different than other studies, while the dissimilarities may be attributed to the sample selection, method of the study and area of patient selection, which suggest racial and genetic differences.
The single matched, taper-sized gutta-percha cone technique

This study assessed the agreement between periapical radiographs (PA) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in evaluating the periapical status of 60 previously root filled maxillary and mandibular molars. The number of canals, periapical lesions, dimensions of lesions, and presence of 'J'-shaped lesions were compared between PA and CBCT. There were statistically significant differences between PA and CBCT for all assessed parameters. The magnitude of differences was greater for maxillary than mandibular molars. Introduction: Orthodontists are often asked to remove fixed retainers before magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI). This study was undertaken to assess the effects of 2 commonly used fixed retainers on MRI distortion
and whether they should be removed. Methods: MRI scans were performed on a dry skull with Twistflex (Dentaurum,
Ispringen, Germany) and Ortho Flex Tech (Reliance Orthodontic Products, Itasca, Ill) retainers. Two
neuroradiologists independently ranked the distortions. The influence of the fixed retainers' alloys, their distance
to the area of diagnosis, location, strength of the magnetic field, and the spin-echo sequence were examined.
Statistical analysis included kappa and Pearson chi-square tests. Results: Ortho Flex Tech retainers caused
no distortion. Twistflex retainers caused distortion in 46% of the tests in areas close to the retainer (tongue
and jaws). Maxillary fixed retainers and the combination of maxillary and mandibular fixed retainers further
increased the distortion. Greater distortion was observed with 3-T magnetic fields and T1-weighted spin-echo
sequences. Conclusions: Removal of the Ortho Flex Tech retainer is unnecessary before MRI. Removal of
the Twistflex should be considered if the MRI scans are performed to diagnose areas close to the fixed retainers,
when 3-T magnetic fields and T1-weighted sequences are used, and when both maxillary and mandibular fixed
retainers are present.

A randomized controlled clinical trial compared the stability of dental implants placed under immediate loading, early loading at 6 weeks, or conventional/delayed loading at 12 weeks. Forty patients each received a single dental implant between 2004-2007. Conventional extraction forceps are designed on the principle of simple machine incorporating two first-class levers, connected with a hinge. The physics forceps are the newly invented forceps. The design of physics forceps which implements a first class lever, creep, and type of force that provides a mechanical advantage, which makes it more efficient. AIM: The aim of the present study to evaluate the efficacy between the conventional extraction forceps and physics forceps in orthodontic extraction of maxillary premolars. Patients & Methods:A total of 50 healthy patients with indicated for extraction of bilateral maxillary premolar for orthodontic reasons; split mouth design (control side, test side) in a randomized manner; were included in the present study. Results:Ease of technique, buccal cortical plate fracture, fracture of tooth or root, gingival laceration, soft tissue healing was not significant. The extraction time and bleeding associated with extraction socket were significant. Post operative days 1-4 are not significant and on day 5-7 the pain on VAS score is 0. Conclusion:The results of present study suggest that, extraction using any forceps can produce predictable results and it totally depends on surgeon’s expertise in a particular technique.
Analysis of the gradient of sinus augmentation- histomorphometric study
This study examined the gradient of new bone formation and residual graft particles at different distances from the sinus floor following maxillary sinus floor augmentation using either freeze-dried bone allografts (FDBA) or biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) bone substitute. Biopsies were taken from 26 sites in 13 patients at implant placement 9 months after sinus augmentation. Histomorphometric analysis found that the density of new bone decreased with increasing distance from the sinus floor for both graft materials. This study evaluated the 5-year outcomes of surgical treatment of peri-implantitis using a bone substitute with or without a resorbable membrane. 38 patients with peri-implantitis were treated with either a bone substitute alone or with a membrane. At 5 years, clinical improvements from treatment were maintained, including reduced bleeding and probing depths. Radiographic bone fill increased by 1.1-1.3 mm with no significant difference between treatment groups. Strict post-surgical plaque control was important for successful treatment outcomes. The membrane did not provide additional benefit to bone fill.

This study compared the widths of 20 commercially available preformed archwires to the widths of natural dental arches in 30 subjects with ideal occlusions. The study found that the preformed archwires were significantly narrower than the natural dental arches at both the canine and molar levels. Specifically, 14 archwires fell within 1 standard deviation of the mean canine width, but only 7 fell within 1 standard deviation of the mean molar width. The variations in current preformed archwire forms do not entirely correspond to the diversity of normal arch forms.
Clinical study of impacted maxillary canine in the Arab population in Israel
The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of impacted maxillary canine in patients in Arabs Community in Israel (ARAB48,Israel) visiting our Center For Dentistry,Research & Aesthetics,Jatt,Almothalath,Israel, 4250 patients . This study comprises data from patients who attended the O.P.D.2200 patients between Jun. 2006 to Dec 2013. Patients were examined in order to detect the impacted maxillary canines by intraoral examination, palpation, dental records and followed by radiographs. It was found that the prevalence of canine impaction was 0,8 % (N=4250), 1,6 (N=2200), 43,9 (N-82) in males and 1,1% (N=4250), 2,1 (N=2200), 56,1 (N-82) in females suggesting that prevalence of impacted maxillary canines is more in females than males and it is statistically significant. The overall prevalence for maxillary impacted canines was found to be 3,7 % (N=2200) which suggested that it is much higher than previous studies. The results of this study were slightly different than other studies, while the dissimilarities may be attributed to the sample selection, method of the study and area of patient selection, which suggest racial and genetic differences.

The study assessed 69 patients who underwent either non-extraction or extraction orthodontic treatment. Pre- and post-treatment panoramic radiographs were used to measure root and crown lengths and areas to determine the amount of ERR. The results found that ERR was significantly higher in VPT compared to RFT. Additionally, the amount of ERR increased with longer treatment duration. However, the modality of treatment (extraction vs. non-extraction) did not significantly affect the amount of ERR in RFT. The study concluded that RFT are more resistant to ERR

Forty participants received a 3-unit zirconia FPD, with 20 in the BOPT group and 20 in the control group. Follow-ups at 1, 3, and 5 years found the BOPT group had lower plaque and gingival indices, smaller increases in pocket depth, and 100% marginal stability, while both groups had similar complication rates of around 15-20%. The study concluded posterior FPDs prepared with BOPT had good clinical responses over 5 years.
Simplified Implant Dentistry By Dr. Mahler

2) Bacteria enter the root canal system through caries, cracks, restorative procedures, or periodontal disease. They can also travel through dentinal tubules or directly expose the pulp.
3) Successful endodontic treatment aims to prevent or resolve apical periodontitis by thoroughly debriding and disinfecting the root canal system.

Boerrigter et al Oral RehabiI1997 Controlled clinical trial (60 patients), comparing the effect of mandibular overdentures on two different implant systems “Brånemark system and the IMZ-system” in edentulous patients were compared one year after insertion of the new dentures. Evaluation included peri-implant and radiographical parameters . During the osseointegration period, five Brånemark and one IMZ-implants were lost. The results were less favorable for the Brånemark group than for the IMZ-group; however, these differences were not significant .
